The Maple Gas Corporation is a Dallas-based company established in 1986 to invest in oil & gas related entities and
assets.
In 1992, Maple began to develop Oil & Gas related projects on an international basis as well as to incorporate
the development of electric power projects into its overall business strategy. In Peru, Maple focused in the Aguaytia Gas
and Power Project, and two oil fields.
In 1994, Maple signed contracts with Perupetro, the government entity in charge
of negotiating and administering hydrocarbon concession agreements. These contracts allowed Maple to develop Block 31C (Aguaytia),
Blocks 31B and 31D (Maquia and Agua Caliente), and later on, Blocks 31E, 31F and 31G. In addition, Maple assumed the operation
of a refinery in the jungle of Peru.
In 1993, Maple began the development of the Aguaytia Gas and Power project,
a $286 million project co-developed with five strategic partners which included the development and commercialization of
the first Peruvian gas field. In addition, the project included the construction and operation of 300km pipelines, a 160MW
thermoelectric plant, and a 400km electric transmission line.
Currently, Maple continues developing other energy
projects around the world, including more projects in Peru and Latin America.
Selecting the ERP Before starting with the Oracle Project, Maple performed a thorough evaluation
of ERP vendors. The selected software was Oracle E-Business Suite, which is based on the Internet Computing architecture.
In addition, Oracle’s Business Intelligence allows Maple to transform data into meaningful and useful information that can
be used to make timely and right decisions at any level of the company.
The implementation of Oracle e-Business Suite began on August 2003 and the first modules were live on January 2004.
Why Oracle? Raymond J. Cochard, VP Finance and Administration, says "Oracle is an open
world-class solution, with a high inter-relation between its modules which allows us to obtain process efficiencies, and
a high quality product.” Mr. Cochard adds, “we took advantage of Oracle’s Internet capabilities to communicate with all
our operating units at the different Peruvian’s regions, and, at the same time, with our headquarters in Dallas, and, in
the future, with the remaining Maple companies."
Why Sygnus? "Maple selected Sygnus Consulting because Sygnus specializes in implementing
ERP’s, such as Oracle Financials. Another factor was the experience developing Oracle products for energy companies like
Occidental Perú Inc, Pluspetrol Perú Corporation, Occidental International Exploration & Production (USA), and Repsol
-YPF Perú. In addition, Sygnus provides Oracle services to Occidental Ecuador and Occidental Qatar (Middle East). Before
Maple, Sygnus Consulting implemented Oracle Financials at Almacenes Tia (Ecuador), Financiera CMR and Saga Fallabella Peru."
Results "The project helped us to review and improve accounting and administrative processes
in order to follow best-practices. Oracle e-business Suite was implemented in several companies and this allow us to consolidate
all the information," says Ivan García. "We expect to implement Oracle at other companies and countries in the future."
Future Plans "We are the first Peruvian company that implemented Oracle e-Business Suite
11i and Oracle 9i Database. In the future, we hope to finish the migration to 11.5.8", adds García.
